You’ve just had an amazing treatment at a Korean dermatology clinic. Your skin is on its way to looking better than ever. But now comes the part that many international patients worry about: taking care of your skin after treatment, especially when you’re about to board a plane home.
This guide covers everything you need to know about post-treatment care for the most common Korean derm procedures — plus practical advice for flying after treatment and managing your recovery from abroad.
Universal Post-Treatment Rules
Regardless of which treatment you had, these rules apply across the board.
Sun protection is non-negotiable
Post-treatment skin is significantly more vulnerable to UV damage. Sun exposure can cause hyperpigmentation, compromise your results, and even lead to permanent discoloration. Use SPF 50+ broad-spectrum sunscreen, reapply every 2-3 hours, and wear a hat when outdoors. This applies even on cloudy days and even if you’re just walking between buildings.
Hydrate aggressively
Most treatments temporarily compromise the skin barrier. Intensive hydration supports healing and helps restore barrier function faster. Look for products containing ceramides, hyaluronic acid, panthenol, or centella asiatica. Apply moisturizer generously and consider sheet masking daily for the first week.
Avoid active ingredients
For at least one week post-treatment, put away your retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C serums (high concentration), and any exfoliating products. Your skin needs time to heal, and these ingredients can cause irritation and inflammation on compromised skin.
Don’t touch your face
Your hands carry bacteria. Touching treated areas increases the risk of infection and can displace products like filler or interfere with healing.
Treatment-Specific Aftercare
Laser Treatments (Pico, Toning, Fractional)
Pico laser and laser toning have the easiest recovery. Expect mild redness for a few hours to one day. You can wash your face gently with a mild cleanser the same day. Avoid hot water. Apply repair cream and sunscreen. Most patients can wear light makeup the next day.
Fractional laser requires more careful management. The skin will be red, swollen, and may ooze for the first 2-3 days. Tiny scabs will form — do not pick them. Let them fall off naturally, which usually takes 5-7 days. Keep the skin clean and moisturized. Avoid makeup until scabs have cleared. Plan to stay in Seoul for at least 2-3 extra days after fractional laser before flying.
Botox
Botox aftercare is straightforward. Stay upright for 4 hours — don’t lie down, bend over, or exercise. Don’t rub or massage the injection sites. Avoid alcohol and hot environments (saunas, hot yoga, steam rooms) for 24-48 hours. Small red dots at injection sites typically fade within hours. Results appear gradually — wrinkle reduction in 3-5 days, jaw slimming in 2-4 weeks.
Dermal Fillers
Filler aftercare requires a bit more attention, especially in the first 48 hours. Swelling is normal and typically peaks on day 2-3 before gradually subsiding. Bruising is possible, particularly around the lips and under-eye area, and may take 5-7 days to resolve.
Apply ice packs in 10-minute intervals to reduce swelling. Sleep on your back with your head slightly elevated. Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and salty food for 48 hours (all of these worsen swelling). Do not massage or press on the treated area.
Critical warning signs: If you experience severe, increasing pain at the injection site, skin turning white or purple, or vision changes — seek medical attention immediately. These could indicate vascular occlusion, which requires urgent treatment.
Ultherapy and Thermage (Lifting Treatments)
These treatments have minimal aftercare requirements. You may experience mild redness and warmth for a few hours, and Ultherapy patients may have slight swelling for 1-2 days. You can wash your face and wear makeup immediately after treatment.
For the following week, increase your moisturizing routine and avoid extreme heat (saunas, prolonged sun exposure). Results develop gradually over 3-6 months as new collagen forms — be patient.
Skin Boosters (Rejuran, Juvelook, Exosomes)
Avoid washing your face or applying makeup for 6 hours after treatment. Small bumps at injection sites are completely normal and resolve within 1-2 days. After the initial 6 hours, cleanse gently and apply hydrating products. Sheet masks are particularly beneficial during recovery. Avoid acids and exfoliants for one week.
Hydra Facial / Aqua Peel
The easiest recovery of all. Your skin will look glowing immediately after treatment. Avoid heavy makeup for the rest of the day, apply sunscreen, and hydrate well. You can resume your normal skincare routine the next day.
Flying After Treatment: What You Need to Know
Airplane cabins present three challenges for post-treatment skin: extremely low humidity (10-20%), pressure changes, and recirculated air.
Pre-flight preparation
Apply a thick layer of moisturizer before boarding. Pack a facial mist for in-flight hydration. Bring your post-treatment repair cream in your carry-on. Wear a mask — it protects healing skin from dry air and airborne particles.
During the flight
Skip makeup entirely. Mist your face every hour or two. Apply moisturizer as needed. Drink plenty of water. Avoid alcohol (it dehydrates you further).
Pressure changes and swelling
If you’ve had filler, expect slightly increased swelling during the flight. This is normal and caused by cabin pressure changes. It resolves within hours of landing. Keeping your head elevated helps.

Managing Recovery from Home
Stay connected with your Korean clinic
Most Korean clinics offer post-treatment support via messaging apps (KakaoTalk, LINE, WhatsApp). Save your clinic’s contact before you leave Seoul. Don’t hesitate to message them with photos if anything concerns you during recovery.
Keep your treatment records
Before you leave the clinic, request documentation of your treatment — including product names, batch numbers, quantities, and injection sites. This information is invaluable if you need to see a dermatologist at home or want follow-up treatments.
Plan your follow-up care
If your treatment requires multiple sessions (like pico laser or skin boosters), you have options: return to Korea for subsequent sessions, or find a qualified provider at home to continue the series. Having your Korean clinic’s records makes this transition smooth.
Stock up on recommended products
Your Korean dermatologist will likely recommend specific post-treatment products. Buy them before you leave — Korean clinic-grade skincare is often better quality and cheaper at the source. Common recommendations include cica repair creams, barrier-restoring moisturizers, and medical-grade sunscreens.
When to Seek Medical Attention
Most post-treatment symptoms are normal and resolve on their own. However, contact your clinic or see a local doctor immediately if you experience any of the following: severe or worsening pain at the treatment site, skin that turns white, blue, or purple after filler, fever or signs of infection (increasing redness, warmth, pus), vision changes after any facial injection, or allergic reaction symptoms (widespread swelling, difficulty breathing, hives).
